Principal Cyber Security Engineer

About the role

The Federal Reserve Bank of Boston is seeking a Principal Cyber Security Engineer to protect the FedNow instant payment service. You will work on‑site with a team of engineers, architects, and product managers to ensure the security and resilience of our cloud‑based payment infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and automate security frameworks and tooling for cloud workloads.
• Conduct point‑in‑time security testing (both automated and manual) of APIs and services.
• Integrate DevSecOps controls into CI/CD pipelines, enforcing governance gates throughout the software lifecycle.
• Provide hands‑on cybersecurity expertise and consultation across people, operations, and technology.
• Monitor logs and alerts to detect anomalies and respond to incidents in real time.

Required profile

• Proficiency in Python, Java, and Go for web and API development.
• Experience testing the security of cloud workloads.
• Strong knowledge of web service protocols, REST principles, and client‑server architecture.
• Understanding of API defense strategies and ability to implement them.
• Foundational skills in logging and monitoring tools for real‑time incident detection.
• Excellent communication skills for conveying risks and solutions to technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
