Principal Counsel, Litigation

About the role

Netflix is seeking an experienced U.S.-based attorney to join its internal general litigation team as Principal Counsel, Litigation. The role is based in Los Angeles and focuses on managing a broad portfolio of litigation matters across the United States and Canada, while collaborating with global partners.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage litigation matters, excluding patent and employment cases, covering contracts, copyright, trademark, defamation, right of publicity, real estate, bankruptcy, subpoenas, personal injury, and more.
• Provide pre‑litigation counseling to business units such as production, licensing, distribution, consumer products, live events, and games.
• Draft and edit pleadings, briefs, and other legal documents; prepare witnesses for testimony.
• Coordinate with internal stakeholders and external counsel to develop litigation strategy and mitigate risk.
• Collaborate with legal and business executives across multiple functions to ensure alignment with company objectives.

Required profile

• 8–12 years of substantive commercial litigation experience, either as outside counsel, in‑house counsel, or a combination of both.
• Direct experience handling entertainment and technology litigation matters.
• Strong business acumen and the ability to make sound judgments in ambiguous, fast‑paced environments.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a clear, concise style.
• Proven ability to work proactively, independently, and reliably under tight deadlines.

Required skills

• Commercial litigation expertise, including brief writing and witness preparation.
• Experience with entertainment and technology law issues.
• Ability to analyze complex legal risks and provide actionable advice.
