Post-Resettlement Caseworker Intern (Unpaid)

About the role

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) seeks a motivated Post‑Resettlement Caseworker Intern to support newly arrived refugees and immigrants in New York. This unpaid internship offers hands‑on experience in delivering holistic services that help clients rebuild their lives.

Key responsibilities

• Assist caseworkers by connecting clients to essential resources such as clothing, food, shelter, and medical care.
• Set up appointments and coordinate with internal and external programs.
• Conduct client enrollment, intakes, and surveys in collaboration with resettlement caseworkers.
• Track client meetings and progress using spreadsheets and ETO software case notes.
• Guide clients through the process of obtaining New York State and City IDs, provide resources, and accompany them to appointments as needed.
• Maintain up‑to‑date digital client files and create new files when required.
• Adhere to IRC policies on confidentiality and client privacy.
• Demonstrate cultural sensitivity, respect client beliefs and values, and provide translation or interpretation when necessary.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Based in the United States.
• Currently enrolled in a post‑secondary institution or graduated within the last two years.
• Undergraduate studies in social sciences or a related field.
• Some experience in job readiness or coaching is preferred.

Required skills

• Proficiency with ETO software.
• Ability to manage and analyze data using spreadsheets.
