Political Affairs Intern – Research & Analysis on Security Council Practice

About the role
The Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs is seeking a Political Affairs Intern to support research and analysis on Security Council practice. This six‑month, full‑time internship is based in New York with a hybrid work arrangement, combining on‑site days at the United Nations headquarters with remote work.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct research on political developments related to Security Council agenda items.
- Document and catalogue evolving Council practices and working methods.
- Assist in drafting studies for the Repertoire of the Practice of the Security Council.
- Support outreach efforts, including preparation of social media content.
- Develop and update databases on Security Council practices and subsidiary bodies.
- Perform other duties as required by the Branch Chief and Senior Political Affairs Officer.
Required profile
- Enrolled in or have completed a graduate programme (Master’s or Ph.D.) or the final academic year of a bachelor’s programme.
- Field of study closely related to political affairs, international relations, or security studies.
- Strong research and drafting abilities.
- Ability to provide official proof of enrollment or degree when requested.
Required skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word.
- Proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Teams.
