Pipe Welder

About the role

CB&I is hiring a Pipe Welder in Nederland, Texas. The welder lays out, aligns and welds fabricated, cast and forged components to build structural forms such as machinery frames, tanks, pressure vessels, furnace shells, buildings and pipe, following blueprints and metallurgy requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Select pipe and related materials and equipment according to specifications
• Plan layouts, assembly and welding, applying knowledge of geometry, metal properties, weld shrinkage and welding techniques
• Use Gas-Metal Arc, Flux-Cored Arc, Gas-Tungsten Arc, Submerged Arc or Shielded Metal Arc welding processes
• Lay out, position, align and fit components, then bolt, clamp and weld metal parts of piping systems, plate, pipe and tube or structural shapes, including tack welding
• Set up the welding unit, insert electrodes and strike the arc to join work pieces, guiding the weld to the right depth and bead
• Clean, degrease or repair weld joints and parts, remove slag and spatter, preheat work pieces and cut metal plates or shapes
• Inspect welds for bead size and other specifications, and load, transport and unload materials and tools
• Follow all safety rules, wear respiratory protection where required, and pass employer performance or certification tests

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Previous years of experience in the field or a related area
• Able to climb structures with fall protection, work in confined spaces with respirators, and comply with safety rules
• Physical demands include standing 70%, climbing and bending frequently, and lifting 10-25 lbs

Required skills

• Ability to read a standard measuring tape and basic drawings
• Understanding of welding processes and ability to pass required safety exams
