Physician/Medical Director of Primary Care

About the role

The University Health Center at the University of Maryland seeks a collaborative physician leader to serve as the Medical Director of Primary Care. This full‑time, on‑site position combines direct patient care with leadership of a multidisciplinary primary‑care team, supporting the health of students, faculty, and staff.

Key responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive primary and acute care to the university community while maintaining accurate electronic medical records.
• Oversee a team of medical providers, delivering mentorship, performance feedback, and evaluations.
• Coordinate with ancillary services (lab, radiology, pharmacy, physical therapy) to ensure timely diagnostics and treatment plans.
• Collaborate with specialty areas such as gynecology, sexual health, gender‑affirming care, and psychiatry.
• Contribute to peer‑review processes, clinical protocol development, and committee work to advance integrated, student‑centered care.
• Allocate 10‑20% protected time for leadership, administrative duties, and program development.

Required profile

• Board certification in Pediatrics (with Adolescent Medicine focus), Family Medicine, or Internal Medicine.
• Minimum two years of supervisory experience overseeing medical providers.
• Experience managing a primary‑care unit in an ambulatory setting, preferably within a college or student‑health environment.
• Demonstrated interest in Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine and a commitment to student success.
