Physician-Research Medical Director, Oncology Service Line

About the role

Ochsner Health is seeking a Physician‑Research Medical Director to lead the Oncology Service Line. The role supports Ochsner’s strategic research goals by improving communication, collaboration, and infrastructure for physician scientists. It is a 0.5‑0.6 FTE position reporting to the Director of the Ochsner Cancer Institute.

Key responsibilities

• Provide oversight of all research activities within the Oncology Center of Excellence.
• Represent Ochsner Cancer Institute Research at organizational, departmental and division meetings.
• Manage collaborative research initiatives with MD Anderson and ensure compliance with related standards.
• Lead efforts to achieve and maintain partnership compliance with a designated NCI Cancer Center.
• Oversee clinical trial feasibility, new trial access, and investigator‑initiated trial development.
• Mentor physicians on Clinical Scientist and Translational Scientist tracks and support grant‑writing activities.

Required profile

• Medical degree with board certification in oncology (or subspecialty) and an active Louisiana medical license.
• Significant progressive experience leading oncology research at an NCI‑designated Cancer Center, with operational responsibility.
• Collaborative leadership style with a proven record of innovative program development and mentorship.
• Ability to communicate strategic research initiatives to physicians, administrators, and executive leadership.
