Physician Rare Tumor Medical Oncologist

About the role

Ochsner MD Anderson Cancer Center is seeking a board‑certified or board‑eligible physician to lead clinical care and research for patients with rare tumor types. The position combines direct patient management with academic responsibilities in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient oncology care for rare tumor patients, including cancers of unknown primary, sarcomas, neuroendocrine tumors, and others.
• Develop, lead, and oversee clinical research studies and clinical trials, leveraging the center’s strong bioinformatics and statistics support.
• Teach and mentor fellows, residents, and medical students as part of the academic track.
• Collaborate with surgical, radiation, and pharmacy teams through dedicated tumor boards and multidisciplinary case reviews.
• Contribute to program development, including precision‑medicine initiatives and molecular tumor board activities.

Required profile

• Board certification or eligibility in hematology and oncology.
• Demonstrated expertise or strong interest in rare tumor subtypes such as sarcomas, gastrointestinal stromal tumors, mesothelioma, neuroendocrine tumors, and others.
• Ability to work within a robust multidisciplinary team that includes surgeons, radiation oncologists, pharmacists, geneticists, and support services.
• Commitment to academic pursuits, including teaching and research, with dedicated time allocated for these activities.
