Physician Advisor

About the role

Jefferson Health is hiring a Physician Advisor in Philadelphia. The role provides consultation on the level of care, use of resources, discharge issues and options, timeliness and appropriateness of care, payment denials and other matters, and consults with physicians to improve the efficiency of care delivery, transitions of care and clinical documentation.

Key responsibilities

• Review clinical information on patients to determine the appropriate status (about 25% of the work).
• Perform Peer-to-Peer (P2P) reviews to overturn denials from payors (about 40% of the work).
• Write backend appeals to overturn payor denials.
• Consult with case managers to help with discharge planning.
• Consult with providers to help determine the appropriate level of care for patients.
• Expediting discharges so that work-ups can be completed outside the hospital.
• Take part in periodic trainings as needed.

Required profile

• Medical degree (MD/DO or equivalent).
• Five years of direct patient care in a hospital setting.
• PA medical license upon hire.
