Phlebotomist / Lab Support Tech I – 40 hrs Day Shift

About the role
The Lab Support Tech I greets patients, assesses their needs and directs them appropriately. The position combines clerical duties, computer and telephone use, and a variety of phlebotomy procedures including blood cultures, EKGs, breath tests, and swabbing for MRSA and COVID.
Key responsibilities
- Collect blood samples using venipuncture across all age groups and follow departmental protocols.
- Receive, label, prioritize and transport specimens, including STAT and special categories.
- Maintain a clean drawing station, restock supplies and ensure proper PPE usage.
- Provide telephone support, answer calls and assist with test ordering in the hospital information system.
- Perform capillary collections (heel sticks, PKU) and swabs for MRSA and COVID testing.
Required profile
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Phlebotomy training or eligibility for ASCP certification (preferred).
- Experience with computer systems and keyboard proficiency.
Required skills
- Phlebotomy and venipuncture techniques.
- Capillary collection (heel sticks, PKU).
- EKG and breath test administration.
- Specimen labeling, registration and transport.
- Use of hospital information systems for test ordering.
