Phlebotomist – Clinical Laboratory

About the role

The Phlebotomist is an integral member of the medical laboratory team at Cleveland Clinic’s Martin South Hospital. You will collect blood and other specimens, ensuring patient comfort and accurate sample handling in a fast‑paced, family‑oriented environment.

Key responsibilities

• Collect blood, urine, and other laboratory specimens from patients of all ages, including specialized tests such as blood glucose tolerance and blood cultures.
• Process and label specimens, enter data into the laboratory information system, and prepare samples for transport to reference laboratories.
• Monitor test orders and requisitions to ensure compliance with outpatient laboratory testing protocols.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• At least six months of phlebotomy and laboratory processing experience.

Required skills

• Phlebotomy techniques, including venipuncture and specimen collection.
• Use of laboratory information systems for specimen tracking.
• Basic knowledge of personal protective equipment and biohazard safety procedures.
