Phlebotomist 1 – Full Time

About the role

The University of Miami UHealth Laboratories Department is seeking a full‑time Phlebotomist 1 to draw and collect blood samples, verify patient records, and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis in the UTower Hospital.

Key responsibilities

• Perform patient phlebotomy following the department’s procedure manual, prioritising hematology and oncology cases.
• Verify patient identity using wristbands, verbal confirmation and electronic records before each draw.
• Label and accession specimens accurately, transport them promptly to the lab and enter collection data into the hospital’s LIS.
• Maintain inventory, restock carts, and adhere to infection‑control and safety protocols.
• Respond to STAT and timed draw requests across multiple hospital units, including ICU, ER and surgical areas.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 1 year of phlebotomy experience, preferably in a hospital setting.
• Ability to work evenings, nights and weekends as needed.
• Commitment to confidentiality, HIPAA compliance and the University’s core values.

Required skills

• Venipuncture and capillary puncture techniques.
• Specimen handling, labeling and transport procedures.
• Use of Laboratory Information Systems for accessioning and reporting.
• Knowledge of infection‑control and PPE protocols.
