Pharmacy Technician – St. Vincent's Birmingham Location

About the role

The pharmacy technician will support safe preparation, compounding, dispensing and distribution of sterile and non‑sterile hazardous medications in an ambulatory oncology setting at our Brookwood location.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and dispense intravenous hazardous and non‑hazardous medications while adhering to PPE and regulatory requirements.
• Participate in the evaluation and use of closed system transfer devices (CSTDs) for hazardous drug preparation.
• Manage hazardous drug training, documentation, competency assessments and spill control procedures.
• Assist with CADD pump preparation, investigational drug inventory, record‑keeping and dispensing.
• Conduct daily purchasing, vendor coordination, inventory control and drug shortage management.
• Generate reports from clinical and automation systems to improve operational efficiency.

Required profile

• Registered Pharmacy Technician with the Alabama State Board of Pharmacy.
• Demonstrated understanding of aseptic technique per USP <797> and USP <800>.
• Completion of required continuing education (3 hours, including 1 live credit hour).

Required skills

• Use of PPE and compliance with hazardous drug handling standards.
• Familiarity with CSTD technology and CADD pump operation.
• Knowledge of USP <797> and USP <800> aseptic and hazardous drug guidelines.
• Competency in investigational drug management and inventory control systems.
