Pharmacy Intern - P1

About the role

Meijer is hiring a Pharmacy Intern (P1) in Franklin. The intern provides basic pharmacy knowledge to customers, processes and fills prescriptions, handles third-party functions, manages inventory and delivers clinical services. The selected person must be enrolled in an accredited pharmacy school and hold a state-specific pharmacy intern license.

Key responsibilities

• Customer service: communicate with patients in person and by phone, help them choose products and obtain medication prices internally and from competitors.
• Prescription handling: use the pharmacy computer system for data entry and third-party adjudication, pull the right products, count and label prescriptions, receive new prescriptions and sell them at the Will Call station.
• Third-party functions and inventory: update balance on hand, order products, look up Meijer codes, check in and put away orders, and process vendor charge backs, transfers and salvage.
• Clinical services: understand patient care services, health screening tests and immunizations available, and know how to perform screenings and immunizations after proper training and state-specific authorization; know MTM platforms and work under a pharmacist when applicable and allowed; know brand and generic names, dosage forms and medical/pharmacy terminology, and perform pharmaceutical calculations.

Required profile

• Enrolled in an accredited pharmacy school.
• Pharmacy intern license (state specific).
• Excellent communication, organizational and prioritization skills, neat and legible penmanship, and professional appearance.
• Understanding of patient confidentiality and of all patient care services available at Meijer Pharmacy.
• Knowledge of third-party help, prescription split billing, health screening tests, immunizations, MTM platforms and MP6.
