Pharmacist - Clinical Outpatient Staff

About the role

The Pharmacy Clinical Outpatient Staff member provides expert medication counseling, ensures safe dispensing, and supports the pharmacy’s operational efficiency. This role works directly with patients, physicians, and insurance providers to deliver high‑quality pharmaceutical care in an outpatient setting.

Key responsibilities

• Review, interpret, and verify prescriptions for safety, efficacy, and regulatory compliance.
• Counsel patients on medication usage, side effects, interactions, and alternatives, including over‑the‑counter products.
• Collaborate with physicians to resolve prescription irregularities and suggest therapeutic alternatives.
• Assist the pharmacy manager in optimizing workflow, inventory management, and financial performance.
• Maintain compliance with state and federal controlled‑substance laws and Good Faith Dispensing policies.
• Process insurance claims, follow up on rejections, and coordinate with third‑party auditors.
• Support opening, closing, and shift‑change duties, ensuring a smooth pharmacy operation.

Required profile

• Licensed pharmacist with experience in outpatient or clinical pharmacy settings.
• Strong knowledge of drug interactions, contraindications, and regulatory requirements.
• Excellent communication skills for patient education and physician collaboration.
• Detail‑oriented with a commitment to patient safety and confidentiality.

Required skills

• Proficiency with EPIC or comparable electronic health record systems.
• Experience using pharmacy dispensing software and medication management tools.
