Perioperative Educational Program Coordinator

About the role

Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital, a Magnet Hospital, is hiring a Perioperative Educational Program Coordinator in the Nursing Education-Nursing Institute department. Working with the Professional Development Manager, the coordinator plans, implements and evaluates orientation and education activities for clinical and support caregivers across the operating rooms, procedural areas, intra-procedural EP and cath cases, and the Fairview ASC. The schedule is 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, and the caregiver must be flexible to float to Westlake.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and implement orientation for new hires, and assist education caregivers in assigning unit preceptors and interviewing new caregivers.
• Complete probationary performance evaluations and take part in annual evaluations with unit managers.
• Coordinate continuing education, training programs and staff development, and assist in coordinating programs with local colleges and universities.
• Perform patient care up to 20% of work time in an area of clinical expertise to demonstrate competence and teach others.
• Help ensure caregiver compliance with regulatory requirements, including CPR and ACLS training and recertification, annual fire safety, diversity and code management education, HIPAA and TB testing coordination.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
• Current state RN licensure.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the AHA or American Red Cross; ACLS within six months of hire if doing moderate/procedural sedation.
• Two years of perioperative experience in a circulating/OR setting.
• Demonstrated expertise in a clinical specialty with current patient care competence.
• Knowledge of adult learning theory, motivational strategies, change theory, group process skills, leadership strategies and teaching.
• Preferred: Master's degree.

Required skills

• Computer skills with clinical systems (Epic/Optome) and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Corrected vision and hearing to normal range; ability to work under stress and irregular hours; follows standard precautions with PPE.
