Performance Lecturer

About the role

The University of Maryland School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies seeks a 9‑month, non‑tenure‑eligible Performance Lecturer to begin in August 2026. This 50% appointment includes a teaching load of six credits per semester and is benefits‑eligible.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver undergraduate courses in theatre performance, such as Foundations of Acting, Acting for Non‑Majors, Voice for the Actor, Musical Theatre, and Acting for Film.
• Design course syllabi, assignments, and assessments that reflect diverse perspectives.
• Mentor and advise students, fostering an inclusive learning environment.
• Contribute to the ARHU Strategic Plan through teaching, service, and leadership initiatives.
• Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and community outreach.

Required profile

• MFA degree in theatre.
• Demonstrated professional theatre practice.
• Certification (or certification in process) in the Linklater technique or equivalent experience.
• Proven teaching experience, preferably at the university level.
• Ability to incorporate diverse perspectives and work collegially.

Required skills

• Linklater technique (certified or in‑process).
• Physical‑theatre techniques such as Alexander, Laban, circus, and clowning.
• Acting, voice, and musical theatre performance skills.
• Directing and film‑acting expertise.
