About the role
The Peer Service Advocate provides crisis intervention, peer counseling, and outreach to community members at the Sixth Street Self-Help Center, helping them engage with services and improve their health and stability.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct outreach and staff the drop‑in area, focusing on individuals who have difficulty engaging with services.
- Provide brief initial assessments to identify high‑risk community members needing immediate attention.
- Connect members to appropriate San Francisco resources, accompany them to appointments, and advocate as needed.
- Maintain compassionate, prompt, and effective service delivery while strengthening community ties.
Required profile
- Minimum two years of peer counseling experience or a BA/BS degree combined with related experience.
- Personal lived experience with poverty, homelessness, mental illness, or substance‑use issues.
- Ability to build rapport, motivate participation, and apply harm‑reduction principles.
- Strong conflict‑resolution and de‑escalation skills.
- Professional, ethical teamwork and confidentiality.
