Pediatric ICU Acute Care NP/PA – Level 2 PICU

About the role

Join a pioneering team building a brand‑new Level 2 Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) in Tyler, Texas. As an Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant you will help shape pediatric critical care delivery for a region that previously had no local ICU beds.

Key responsibilities

• Provide 12‑hour bedside care for critically ill children, including assessments, orders, and procedures.
• Collaborate daily with attending physicians who provide in‑person coverage and overnight home call.
• Develop and refine clinical protocols, order sets, and unit policies.
• Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and coordinate transfers to higher‑level centers when needed.
• Document care in the electronic medical record and ensure compliance with quality standards.

Required profile

• Current license as a Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) or Physician Assistant.
• Board certification or eligibility in pediatric acute care.
• Experience in a pediatric or mixed ICU setting preferred.
• Ability to work autonomously within a collaborative, physician‑led model.

Required skills

• Advanced pediatric physical assessment and diagnostic reasoning.
• Prescribing and managing medications, fluids, and ventilator support.
• Interpretation of laboratory and imaging results.
• Proficiency with electronic health record documentation.
