Pediatric Dentist

About the role

Petaluma Health Center, a Federally Qualified Health Center serving Southern Sonoma County and West Marin, is hiring a full-time Pediatric Dentist. The Pediatric Dentist provides dental care for infants, children and adolescents, evaluates, diagnoses, prevents and treats oral diseases and injuries, and supervises dental auxiliaries and front office personnel.

Key responsibilities

• Provide patient care and manage immediate staff such as assistants and the patient care coordinator; act as an internal referral resource for general dentists and community clinics
• Perform infant oral health exams with caries risk assessment, preventive care (cleaning, fluoride), habit counseling and early orthodontic assessment
• Treat cavities, gum disease, oral injuries and oral conditions linked to diabetes, heart defects, asthma, hay fever and ADHD
• Perform restorations, crowns, root canal therapy, oral surgery and periodontal therapy, with or without nitrous oxide, oral sedation or general anesthesia
• Supervise staff, schedule patients efficiently, maintain accurate patient records and follow clinic protocols and compliance standards
• Work with the IT department and dental software (Dentrix, Guru, Dexis), communicate with dental laboratories and vendors, and share knowledge gained from seminars

Required profile

• Degree from an ADA-accredited dental school (DDS or DMD)
• 2-3 year residency program completed
• California state license and current BLS certification
• Completed CE requirements including the Dental Practice Act and infection control
• Bilingualism in English and Spanish, written and verbal, preferred
