Patient Access Supervisor – Centralized Scheduling

About the role

The Patient Access Supervisor oversees verification, scheduling, and pre‑registration of outpatient diagnostic procedures within the Centralized Scheduling Department. Reporting to the Centralized Scheduling Patient Access Manager, this role ensures accurate, efficient departmental operations and high‑quality patient service.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise Patient Access Specialists, manage scheduling queues, and resolve issues promptly.
• Collect and document patient payments, provide financial counseling, and ensure compliance with insurance and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain departmental equipment, supplies, and oversee hiring, training, and performance evaluations.
• Utilize eCare (Cerner) for scheduling, verify orders, insurance benefits, and pre‑certifications using TransUnion and STAR.
• Monitor daily appointment schedules, handle cancellations/reschedules, and support quality improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Experience in a hospital setting or financial area, with strong knowledge of insurance verification and pre‑certification processes.
• Ability to lead staff, maintain professionalism, and ensure compliance with Joint Commission, HIPAA, and CMS guidelines.

Required skills

• Proficiency with eCare (Cerner) scheduling system.
• Experience using TransUnion and STAR for insurance verification.
• Strong knowledge of insurance plan requirements and financial counseling.
