Patient Access Specialist - Days, Onsite

About the role

Jupiter Medical Center, ranked #1 for safety, quality and patient satisfaction in Palm Beach County, is hiring a full-time Patient Access Specialist working days and onsite. The specialist delivers a strong customer experience, registers patients accurately and verifies insurance, acting as a liaison between patients and the hospital.

Key responsibilities

• Obtain demographic, insurance and medical information to ensure accurate and complete registration.
• Perform insurance verification, data collection and documentation.
• Determine medical necessity of services based on established medical criteria.
• Identify patient financial responsibilities and collect applicable monies.
• Act as liaison to internal and external customers to facilitate access to hospital services.
• Secure all documentation needed to register the patient's visit and perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Minimum 2 years of experience with hospital insurance plans including Medicare, Medicaid, HMOs and PPOs.
• Two to four years of healthcare experience in an outpatient setting.
• BLS certification through the American Heart Association for Healthcare Providers required within 90 days of hire.
• Ability to sit for long periods, lift up to 20 lbs and pull up to 40 lbs, and travel as needed.

Required skills

• Excellent typing and computer skills.
• Familiarity with area managed care plans and contractual terms.
• Knowledge of outpatient procedures, medical terminology and Federal and third-party payor requirements.
• Written and verbal communication, teamwork and ability to multi-task.
