Patient Access Representative / Medical Assistant – Cardiology

About the role

The Patient Access Representative/Medical Assistant works in a cardiology clinic to provide direct patient care and manage appointment scheduling. Reporting to a licensed provider, the role blends front‑desk service with basic clinical duties to ensure smooth clinic operations.

Key responsibilities

• Schedule, reschedule, and confirm patient appointments by phone or in person.
• Collect and verify patient demographic, insurance, and financial information; explain benefits and collect co‑pays.
• Perform vital signs, obtain height, weight, allergy and medication histories, and prepare patients for exams.
• Maintain accurate patient paperwork, ensure required forms are completed, and enter data into the electronic health record.
• Provide courteous customer service to patients, families, and visitors, and respond to questions about procedures.

Required profile

• High School Diploma/GED (required); completion of a Medical Assistant training program (preferred).
• Related experience in a clinic or medical office setting (preferred).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required); optional certifications include CHAM, CHAA, or Medical Assistant credential.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Windows‑style applications and data‑entry keyboards.
• Effective verbal and written communication for interacting with patients and staff.
• Ability to work collaboratively across departments and exercise sound judgment in difficult situations.
