Patient Access Representative – Lafayette Region

About the role

The Patient Access Representative greets patients and guests courteously, both by phone and in person, and manages the scheduling, check‑in and admission processes. The role ensures accurate collection of demographic and insurance information, supports point‑of‑service collections, and helps patients understand their financial responsibilities.

Key responsibilities

• Create, activate, and complete patient scheduling, clinic registration, or hospital admission, ensuring all required forms are gathered and accurate.
• Gather and input patient and guarantor demographic and financial data, verify insurance benefits electronically or by phone, and collect co‑pays, deductibles and self‑pay amounts.
• Perform financial analysis for each case, explain patient financial responsibility, and balance the cash drawer at shift end.
• Provide excellent customer service, adapt communication style to diverse patient populations, and resolve interpersonal conflicts professionally.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s degree preferred.
• Minimum of 1 year experience in a hospital, clinic, medical office or related customer‑service environment.
• Preferred certifications: CHAM, CHAA, or Medical Assistant.
• Knowledge of healthcare insurance benefits, payer guidelines, and federal/state billing regulations.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Windows operating system and standard office software.
• Experience using electronic insurance verification systems and data‑entry applications.
• Strong clerical and technical skills for handling patient registration and financial transactions.
