Patient Access Representative

About the role

R1 is a provider of technology-driven solutions for hospitals, health systems and medical groups. As a Patient Access Representative at Ascension Dell Children's Medical Center in Austin, you will be the first point of contact for patients, helping them get fast, compassionate and accurate access to care. The schedule is emergency department hours: Wednesday 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM, and Thursday to Saturday 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM. No healthcare background is needed, as training is provided.

Key responsibilities

• Assist patients and families with the check-in process, using multiple computer systems to register patients efficiently
• Answer phones and gather accurate patient information quickly in a fast-paced environment
• Navigate insurance plans and coverage details, enter demographics and medical data, collect co-pays and give cost estimates when applicable
• Build trust with patients who may be ill, anxious, confused or overwhelmed
• Collaborate with nurses, physicians and care teams to keep patient flow smooth

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED
• Ability to pass a background check, drug test and meet vaccination requirements
• Customer service, communication and interpersonal skills, with composure and professionalism in a fast pace
• Ability to multitask, prioritize and shift priorities based on patient needs
• Experience with patient access, medical registration, insurance verification or front desk is a plus but not required

• Base pay of $16.12 to $23.21 per hour, depending on role, level, location, experience and education
