Patient Access Representative

About the role

R1 is looking for a Patient Access Representative for the Emergency Department at Ascension Dell Seton Medical Center in Austin, Texas. The role is full time, on an overnight shift from Sunday to Wednesday, 8pm to 6:30am. It is the first point of contact for patients, helping them get fast, compassionate and accurate access to care.

Key responsibilities

• Assist patients and families with the check-in process, using multiple computer systems to register patients efficiently
• Answer phones and gather accurate patient information quickly in a fast-paced environment
• Minimize delays in registration and answer questions with confidence, clarity and compassion
• Navigate diverse insurance plans and coverage details, enter demographics and medical data, collect co-pays and give cost estimates when applicable
• Work with nurses, physicians and care teams to keep patient flow smooth

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED
• Ability to pass a background check, drug test and meet vaccination requirements
• No healthcare background needed: training is provided
• Experience with patient access, medical registration, insurance verification or front desk is a plus
