About the role
Bureau Veritas is seeking qualified Structural Engineers with a seismic focus for part‑time, as‑needed assignments in and around Memphis, TN. The role involves on‑site building assessments, seismic risk evaluations, and preparation of detailed technical reports for clients across the United States.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct client‑facing on‑site seismic risk assessments, ASCE‑41 Tier 1 reports, and structural building system assessments.
- Perform structural calculations according to modern and historic building codes for investigations or limited retrofit projects.
- Gather field data through visual inspections, plan reviews, interviews, and photographic documentation.
- Prepare clear, technically sound reports that meet client scopes and Bureau Veritas quality standards.
- Participate in limited structural repair or seismic retrofit design tasks as required.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited university.
- 3–7 years of seismic engineering experience, including at least 3 years of seismic design and 2 years of seismic risk assessment.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred or path to licensure.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean record and ability to travel to client sites.
Required skills
- ASCE‑41 seismic assessment methodology.
- Seismic risk assessment and earthquake damage loss modeling.
- Performance‑based seismic design and retrofit strategies.
- Structural calculations using modern and historic building codes.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, inspection tools, and smartphone applications.
