Part‑Time Night Emergency Room Secretary

About the role

The Emergency Room Secretary provides front‑desk support to patients, visitors and clinical staff during night shifts (3 p.m. – 1 a.m.). This part‑time position helps keep patient flow smooth and ensures accurate documentation in a fast‑paced emergency department.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the primary receptionist at the nursing station, greeting internal and external callers and walk‑in patients.
• Process orders, coordinate patient flow, and arrange care as directed by RNs, PAs, and physicians.
• Compile departmental data and statistics for reporting purposes.
• Maintain accurate records and assist with administrative tasks throughout the shift.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of a Medical Terminology course or comparable experience.
• American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certification.
• Ability to follow policies, make critical decisions, and stay mentally alert.
• Strong organizational skills, self‑direction, and capacity to work with minimal supervision.
• Calm and functional demeanor during emergencies or conflicts.
• Willingness to work weekends and holidays on a rotating schedule.
