Part-Time Pharmacy Technician

About the role

Messino Cancer Centers is hiring a part-time Pharmacy Technician. The role maintains the ordering and stocking of medications and supplies in the clinic, prepares and mixes medications under the supervision of a licensed healthcare professional, and acts as liaison between physicians, nursing, the pharmacy supervisor and purchasing for special-order medications.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and mix chemotherapy drugs and solutions under licensed supervision, in line with state regulations
• Maintain proficiency with the Nucleus medication dispensing system and manage par levels
• Review next-day orders with nursing staff to anticipate special medication needs
• Order, stock and track medical supplies and medications, keeping inventory levels appropriate and waste minimal
• Perform daily and annual maintenance of chemotherapy hoods and manage ambulatory pump documentation
• Handle biohazardous waste disposal safely and in compliance, including recordkeeping and coordination with Accounting
• Maintain records for compassionate drug programs, clinical trials and biohazard waste, and comply with federal/state laws, patient privacy regulations, OSHA standards and organizational policies
• Assist in training new pharmacy technicians and nursing staff on chemotherapy preparation and the Nucleus system
• Collaborate with nurses, physicians, supervisors and pharmaceutical representatives, and support operations across multiple locations and work overtime when required
• Attend mandatory meetings, including annual Safety/OSHA training, and travel occasionally to educational and research meetings

Required profile

• PTCB certification or registration as a Pharmacy Technician, following applicable state regulations
• At least three years of experience in healthcare, preferably as a pharmacy technician in a clinical setting
• Willingness to travel occasionally to educational, research and training meetings
• Valid state driver's license for travel to clinics
