Part-Time Patient Safety Attendant

About the role

AdventHealth is hiring a part-time Patient Safety Attendant in its Shawnee Mission facility. The attendant supports nursing staff and helps keep patients safe while they are on the ward, with a day shift.

Key responsibilities

• Assist nursing staff with transporting patients, delivering equipment and supplies, transporting specimens, delivering patient trays, answering phones and assisting visitors when not directly observing patients.
• Prevent patient self-harm or harm to others and seek immediate help for escalating incidents.
• Respect patient rights to privacy and confidentiality and create clear, accurate documentation of patient status and activities during the shift.
• Promote positive patient interactions, advocate for patients and family-centered care, and communicate clearly with patients, physicians and colleagues.
• Act as a resource to department staff, students and volunteers, helping with orientation of new staff.
• Maintain direct observation of patients at all times, including during family visits, and accompany patients during transport, testing and procedures away from their usual environment.
• Establish a safe environment using fall prevention, infection control and self-harm prevention measures, and report changes in a patient's physical and emotional condition promptly.

Required profile

• High school graduate or equivalent (required).
• Basic Life Support / CPR certification (required).
• 1+ year of clinical experience in a physician office or other healthcare setting (preferred).
• 1+ year of healthcare experience (preferred).
