Behavioral Care Associate

About the role

AdventHealth is hiring a Behavioral Care Associate in Shawnee Mission, Kansas, working full-time during day shifts. The associate observes patients to detect behavior patterns, implements patient-centered and trauma-informed care, and creates a therapeutic environment for safe treatment. The advertised minimum pay rate is $19.50 per hour, with a stated pay range of $16.42 to $26.28.

Key responsibilities

• Observe patients to detect behavior patterns and report observations and concerns to the registered nurse or behavioral health clinician.
• Implement patient-centered care and trauma-informed care.
• Create and support a therapeutic environment for safe treatment implementation.
• Perform observation rounds on assigned patients, documenting in real time.
• Use clear, positive communication to assess and provide therapeutic intervention for patients' and families' needs and concerns.

Required profile

• High school graduate or equivalent (required); technical/vocational school preferred.
• Conversational reading, writing and speaking of English.
• Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification required; Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) preferred.
• Experience in an inpatient, 24-hour-per-day mental health or substance abuse setting preferred.

Required skills

• Professional communication with patients, families, nurses, physicians and other health care professionals.
• Knowledge of common health care concepts, practices and procedures, and of regulatory requirements and local, state and national laws.
• Proficiency in computer systems for entering and tracking patient records, and basic Microsoft Office skills.
