Part-Time Patient Check-In Representative

About the role

Optum, part of UnitedHealth Group, is hiring a part-time Patient Check-In Representative in Braintree, Massachusetts. The role works with a high level of autonomy and serves as a key member of the medical team, delivering customer service and supporting patient-clinician relationships. It sits under the supervision of the Supervisor or Regional Manager of Central Check-In Operations.

Key responsibilities

• Greet patients entering the practice, perform health screenings and complete the check-in process so the clinical unit knows patients have arrived
• Verify and update patient demographics and insurance information, and ensure patients have completed and signed registration and waiver forms
• Use health plan or vendor websites to verify insurance eligibility, and handle workers' compensation and motor vehicle accident cases by creating shell accounts and referring to Medical Billing
• Enter referral information into the Epic system and collect payments, co-pays and outstanding balances
• Process end-of-day cash: reconcile daily deposits, prepare and transport bank deposits, post payments and resolve discrepancies
• Maintain cash-handling forms and supplies, and train site staff on cash handling and deposit procedures
• Review work queues and reports, and protect patient privacy in line with HIPAA and departmental policies

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED
• At least 1 year of administrative experience in a business setting, such as healthcare or hospitality check-in with cash handling, insurance verification, payment collection and banking
