Part-Time Meat Clerk

About the role

Fresh Thyme Market is hiring a part-time Meat Clerk in Apple Valley. The Meat & Seafood Clerk keeps the store meat cases stocked and clean during business hours, assists customers and follows all Meat Department procedures. The position suits someone passionate about the retail grocery market and organic products.

Key responsibilities

• Keep meat and seafood cases, storage areas and work areas clean and safe, including sweeping and removing hazardous debris.
• Stock meat and seafood cases, present products, face and organize items according to Meat Department schematics, and check tag and pricing accuracy.
• Check the rotation of products and watch for expired stock.
• Answer customer questions, help with purchases and sell and cross-sell products at the meat counter.
• Receive, inspect and log incoming products for shipment accuracy, temperature and quality.
• Monitor point-of-purchase signs, recipe cards, coupons and promotional material.
• Use knives, scales, wrappers, compactors, garbage disposals, pallet jacks and hand trucks, and follow Health Department guidelines.
• Prepare meat and seafood products, maintain proper temperatures, and keep products organized in coolers and freezers.
• Weigh and label products, package and wrap them, and follow dating procedures.
• Take part in pre-inventory preparation, keep product knowledge up to date, and walk the department regularly to keep it organized and sanitary.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Preferred: 1-2 years of grocery retail experience in meat department processes, and previous experience in a natural foods industry is a plus.
• Ability to work varied hours and days as business dictates.
• Basic knowledge of math, weights and measures, and familiarity with COOL compliance for seafood.

Required skills

• Knife, tenderizer, grinder and meat machinery skills, plus expert packaging and wrapping.
• Ability to cut and weigh meat and seafood, and to adapt to high-volume retail in a team environment.
• Attention to detail, multitasking, and good verbal communication.
