Part-Time Meat Clerk

About the role

Fresh Thyme Market, a Fast Thyme Farmers Market, is hiring a part-time Meat Clerk in Cranberry Township. The clerk keeps the store's meat and seafood cases stocked and clean during business hours, assists customers and follows all Meat Department procedures. The position suits someone passionate about the retail grocery market and organic products.

Key responsibilities

• Keep meat and seafood cases, storage areas and work areas clean and safe, including sweeping and removing hazardous debris.
• Stock cases, present products, face and organize items according to Meat Department schematics, and check tag and pricing accuracy.
• Check product rotation and watch for expired stock.
• Answer customer questions, help with purchases and sell and cross-sell products at the meat counter.
• Receive, inspect and log incoming products for shipment accuracy, temperature and quality.
• Monitor point-of-purchase signs, recipe cards, coupons and promotional material.
• Use knives, scales, wrappers, compactors, garbage disposals, pallet jacks and hand trucks, and follow safety practices such as mesh gloves with knives.
• Prepare meat and seafood products with correct ingredients and cooking times, and maintain proper temperatures.
• Organize, stack and rotate products in coolers and freezers, and weigh, label, package and wrap products correctly.
• Take part in pre-inventory preparation, keep product knowledge up to date and walk the department regularly to keep it organized and sanitary.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Preferred: 1-2 years of grocery retail experience in meat department processes, and previous experience in a natural foods industry is a plus.
• Ability to work varied hours and days as business dictates.
• Familiarity with Health Department guidelines for grocery retail and basic knowledge of math, weights and measures.

Required skills

• Knife, tenderizer, grinder and meat machinery skills, plus expert packaging and wrapping.
• Ability to cut and weigh meat and seafood, and understand COOL compliance for seafood and its countries of origin.
• Customer service, attention to detail, multitasking and organizational skills.
