Part-Time Air Talent Announcer

About the role

iHeartMedia, the largest audio company in America, is hiring a part-time air talent announcer for its Z100 station in New York. The announcer creates, produces and announces topics on the radio, including music, entertainment, politics, news, weather, sports and traffic. Flexible availability on weekends, overnight hours and holidays is required.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver newscasts, announce the radio playlist, give weather and traffic conditions, and deliver sport scores, statistics and game information.
• Comment on music and other topics of interest to the audience, and may interview musical personalities and listeners.
• Typically specialize in one type of music (classical, pop, rock, country and western, etc.).
• Write, review and edit news copy, introductions, public service announcements, commercials, pre-recorded reports and contests.
• Take part in promotional events and may operate the control board for studios and remote programming.
• May sell advertising space directly to advertisers, regulate program timing, run syndicated programming and play commercials.
• Monitor the quality of on-air programming, censor live programs to protect the station's license, process time-out programming and check studio equipment.
• Handle emergency inserts such as news updates, breaking stories and alert system tests.

Required profile

• 1-2 years of experience as an announcer in a smaller market or college station environment.
• 4-year college degree, preferably in Communications or Broadcast Journalism.
• Socially informed, with up-to-date knowledge of local and national trends and topics relevant to on-air discussion.
• Pleasant, charismatic voice with excellent pronunciation and well-rounded communication skills for interviews.
• Excellent writing and editing skills and proficiency in media production and broadcast systems.
• Flexible availability on weekends, overnight hours and holidays.

Required skills

• Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite and social networking.
• May require selling skills and other language proficiency, such as Spanish.
