Painter

About the role

Amentum is seeking a Painter in the Williamsburg area of Virginia. The Painter paints and redecorates walls, woodwork and fixtures. The position is currently part of a proposal effort and is not yet guaranteed; it becomes guaranteed once the contract is awarded and the position is formally modified. It is an hourly, overtime-eligible position under the Service Contract Act.

Key responsibilities

• Paint and redecorate walls, woodwork and fixtures, mixing colors, oils, white lead and other ingredients to get the right color and consistency
• Prepare surfaces by removing old finish or filling nail holes and interstices with putty or filler, then apply paint, stains, varnish and sealers with brushes, rollers and spray guns
• Erect scaffolding and ladders safely, operate ventilation equipment and clean up tools and work areas daily
• Calculate paint needs, perform structural repairs such as drywall repairs, and remove old finishes including stripping or sanding
• Protect trim, floors, furniture and other surfaces with masking tape, drop cloths and other coverings
• Set up ventilators and safety equipment to protect against fumes, and remove and reinstall fixtures such as doorknobs and switch covers
• Work may involve standing or kneeling for long periods and working at heights

Required profile

• Formal apprenticeship training or equivalent training and experience
• Previous residential or commercial painter experience preferred
• High school diploma or GED
• Government-issued clearance available at the time of application
• Valid Real ID driver's license
• Ability to lift heavy materials, climb ladders and stand for long periods

Required skills

• Familiarity with different paints, coatings and application tools
• Knowledge of surface types and the paints needed for different applications
