Maintenance Carpenter

About the role

Amentum is seeking a Carpenter in the Williamsburg area of Virginia. The Carpenter maintains building woodwork and equipment such as bins, cribs, counters, benches, partitions and doors. The position is currently part of a proposal effort and is not yet guaranteed; it becomes guaranteed once the contract is awarded and the position is formally modified.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and lay out work from blueprints, drawings, models or verbal instructions, using hand tools, portable power tools and measuring instruments, and make standard shop computations and select materials.
• Maintain and repair woodwork and equipment, including responding to maintenance calls and troubleshooting repairs.
• Install and maintain doors and door hardware, and install and prepare drywall up to level 4.
• Install flooring such as carpet, carpet tiles, LVP and laminate.
• Prepare estimates, man hours, materials used and order items needed for job completion or inventory replacement.
• Keep detailed reports of work done at each job site and follow safety and health requirements.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid Real ID driver's license.
• Formal apprenticeship completed with 2 years of experience, or 5 years of carpentry experience.
• Active government-issued clearance, or ability to obtain one at application time.
• Ability to communicate well with clients and team members, work independently or in a team, and make basic decisions.

Required skills

• Reading blueprints, manuals and construction drawings.
• Use of carpentry tools and making shop computations.
• Door and door hardware installation, maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Drywall installation and preparation, and flooring installation.
