Outdoor Education Instructor

About the role

The YMCA Camp Duncan is seeking enthusiastic Outdoor Education Instructors to support the Program Director in delivering safe, engaging, and educational outdoor experiences for campers and group rentals. You will play a key role in creating a supportive environment while ensuring the safety and well‑being of all participants.

Key responsibilities

• Create a safe, supportive, and interactive environment for program participants.
• Supervise participants with age‑appropriate guidance, respecting diverse abilities and interests.
• Develop and deliver daily lesson plans, ensuring all materials and supplies are prepared.
• Teach outdoor educational classes, including campfires and evening programs, for schools and retreat groups.
• Assist the Program Director with group rentals and camp operations.
• Maintain cleanliness and upkeep of program areas and equipment.
• Participate in team meetings, mandatory trainings, and special events.

Required profile

• At least 18 years of age.
• Ability to work effectively with children, young adults, or other participants in a camp setting.
• Proficiency in risk management and safety protocols for outdoor activities.
• Experience leading outdoor activities such as canoeing, rock climbing, or team‑building exercises (preferred).
• Demonstrated ability to serve as a positive role model, embodying respect, responsibility, caring, and honesty.
• Commitment to the YMCA of Metro Chicago’s mission.
