Ophthalmic Technician 3 – LASIK & Laser Vision Center

About the role

The Bascom Palmer Eye Institute is seeking a full‑time Ophthalmic Technician 3 to support LASIK and laser vision services in Miami. The OT3 provides expert clinical testing, documentation, and patient‑centric care in a fast‑paced ophthalmic environment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform and document comprehensive eye examinations, including visual acuity, refraction, intra‑ocular pressure, and visual field testing.
• Administer eye drops, manage contact lens insertion/removal, and conduct imaging (fundus photography, OCT, slit‑lamp exams).
• Prepare patients for intravitreal injections and support virtual‑care encounters.
• Maintain EMR records, ensure equipment calibration, and comply with infection‑control standards.
• Assist with clinical research, mentor junior staff, and act as a super‑user for technology implementations.
• Travel to satellite eye centers and work evenings or weekends as needed.

Required profile

• Current certification with JCAHPO or equivalent.
• Experience documenting ophthalmic exams in an EMR system.
• Ability to meet daily productivity goals and maintain high accuracy.
• Willingness to attend continuing education and maintain required certifications.

• Goldmann applanation tonometry, Tono‑Pen, and I‑Care tonometry
• Pachymetry and lensometry
• Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) imaging
• Fundus photography and slit‑lamp examination
• Virtual‑reality, Humphrey, and automated/manual visual field testing
• Amsler grid assessment
