Operator Trainee – Refinery Operations

About the role

The Operator Trainee will support safe and efficient operation of a designated process unit at the Lake Charles Refinery. This entry‑level position provides hands‑on experience with high‑temperature, high‑pressure processes that handle hazardous materials.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor unit consoles and observe assigned areas for abnormal conditions.
• Take samples and record readings of various process streams.
• Maintain equipment, perform routine inspections, and follow safe work practices.
• Initiate work orders, permits, and coordinate with contractors and agencies.
• Participate in safety reviews, emergency response teams, and annual training refreshers.
• Uphold company policies, values, and standards in all operations.

Required profile

• Legally authorized to work in the United States and at least 18 years old.
• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC).
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lb, climb up to 250 ft, work rotating shifts, overtime, and respond to call‑outs.
• Willingness to work in confined spaces, near high‑pressure equipment, chemicals, and in harsh weather conditions.
• Capability to read technical procedures in English and wear required PPE.
