Operations Manager for Space Institute

About the role

The Operations Manager leads facility operations, maintenance, and infrastructure support for the Texas A&M University Space Institute in Houston. This role ensures safe, secure, and functional facilities that support a dynamic, multi‑tenant research environment.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee preventative, corrective and planned maintenance of mechanical, electrical, HVAC, custodial and grounds operations.
• Manage day‑to‑day facility operations, building access control, tenant onboarding and usage processes.
• Coordinate vendor services, contractors and maintenance providers to ensure quality and compliance.
• Lead safety, emergency preparedness and business continuity activities, including training and drills.
• Supervise operation and reconfiguration of specialty environments such as Moon and Mars analog scapes.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Facility Management, Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture or related field, or equivalent experience.
• At least five years of experience in facility operations, maintenance or project coordination.
• U.S. citizenship (position is security‑sensitive).

Required skills

• Knowledge of building systems and maintenance practices.
• Experience with HVAC, mechanical and electrical systems.
• Vendor coordination and contract management.
