Operating Room Service Assistant - ENT

About the role

Cleveland Clinic's Main Campus hospital is hiring an Operating Room Service Assistant for its ENT department. The role supports the operating room by helping transport patients and set up the room, and assists surgeons with basic tasks. The shift runs from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain surgical instrument sets and equipment and ensure proper sterile conditions.
• Provide limited assistance to surgeons, such as holding limbs and retractors, suctioning and sponging wounds.
• Clean used instruments after surgery, which may involve assembling and maintaining them for proper cleaning and sterilization.
• Order supplies, stock them and keep storage areas in the operating room tidy.
• Assist in transporting patients and help the registered nurse maintain a safe environment for the patient.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• Ability to lift and carry items up to 25 pounds and to push and pull supply carts weighing up to 200 pounds.
• Requires full range of body motion, standing and walking for long periods, and working under stressful conditions with irregular hours.
• Some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids; follows standard precautions with personal protective equipment.

Preferred qualifications

• Sterile processing certification.
• Two years of experience in sterile processing.
• Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, service-specific surgical instruments, equipment and procedures.
