Open Rank Faculty Position – School of Civic Life and Leadership

About the role

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applications for an Open Rank, tenure‑track faculty position in the School of Civic Life and Leadership (SCiLL). The appointment will involve teaching, research, and service that advance the school’s mission to study and practice public discourse, civic life, and civic leadership.

Key responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses related to civic life, public discourse, political economy, and related fields.
• Develop and revise curricula that reflect interdisciplinary approaches.
• Conduct original research, publish scholarly work, and seek external funding.
• Advise and mentor students, including supervising theses and projects.
• Participate in departmental, college, and university service committees.
• Engage with the broader community to promote democratic competencies and civic engagement.

Required profile

• Ph.D. or terminal degree in a discipline aligned with the school’s mission (e.g., history of economics, political economy, public policy, etc.).
• Demonstrated commitment to interdisciplinary scholarship and teaching excellence.
• Evidence of a robust research agenda with potential for high‑impact publications.
• Ability to contribute to a diverse and inclusive academic environment.
