Nurse Surveyor – Health Facilities Evaluator

About the role

The California Department of Public Health is seeking a qualified Registered Nurse to serve as a Health Facilities Evaluator Nurse (HFEN). In this role you will conduct inspections, investigations, surveys, and evaluations of health facilities to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Perform on‑site inspections of health facilities across California.
• Investigate compliance issues and prepare detailed reports.
• Advise facility administrators and community agencies on licensing and certification requirements.
• Apply state and federal laws to areas such as nursing, pharmacy, dental, and other patient‑care services.
• Travel extensively to assigned facilities.

Required profile

• Valid Registered Nursing (RN) license in California.
• Knowledge of California health‑facility licensing and certification regulations.
• Ability to interpret and enforce state and federal health statutes.
• Strong communication skills for advising administrators and agencies.
