Nurse Associate Externship - Summer 2027

About the role

The Nurse Associate Externship is a paid, 10‑week program for nursing students graduating in Fall 2027 or Spring 2028. Participants work one‑on‑one with RNs in acute inpatient areas at Cleveland Clinic Main Campus, gaining hands‑on patient care experience and classroom instruction.

Key responsibilities

• Assist patients with personal care, activities of daily living, and transfers/transport.
• Report abnormal findings or changes in patients' conditions to the supervising RN.
• Maintain clean and orderly patient rooms.
• Participate in required classroom sessions and skill checklists.

Required profile

• Enrolled in an accredited BSN program with less than one year until graduation, or an ADN program with less than two classes remaining.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English and follow oral and written instructions.
• Good interpersonal skills and basic mathematics ability.

Required skills

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Vital signs measurement and documentation.
• Medication administration and IV therapy (when enrolled in a concurrent school course).
