New Grad RN Resident - Med Surg

About the role

Cleveland Clinic Medina Hospital's 3 South nursing unit is a 32-bed unit specializing in general medical-surgical care for adult and geriatric patients, with an emphasis on observation. It treats conditions such as pneumonia, diabetes, sepsis, GI bleed, COPD exacerbation, cancer, kidney stones and bowel obstruction, as well as patients after hysterectomy, thyroidectomy, colon resection and appendectomy. The new grad RN resident works nights from 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., assisting fellow caregivers in delivering care and interacting directly with patients, families and visitors.

Key responsibilities

• Take part in a residency core curriculum tailored to individual learning needs.
• Provide direct nursing care alongside a success coach.
• Set and revise patient-care priorities (acuity of need, patient preference, resource availability).
• Act on data showing risk to patients' health to correct, reduce or prevent it.
• Seek supervision and consultation when unable to act safely and independently.
• Document in patients' medical records.

Required profile

• Graduate of an accredited professional nursing program (ADN or BSN).
• Current state RN licensure.
• New grad or less than one year of RN experience, or an experienced RN moving from a non-inpatient to an acute inpatient direct-care setting with less than one year of acute experience.
• BLS certification through the AHA or American Red Cross; ACLS required for critical care positions.

Required skills

• Full range of body motion, including lifting and handling patients.
• Ability to stand and walk for long periods, work under stress and irregular hours, and follow standard precautions with PPE.
