About the role
Venus Aerospace is looking for a Network & RF Administrator in Houston to support the network and communications infrastructure used in daily operations and remote field activities. Most of the year you work with the IT team on enterprise network operations and infrastructure projects; during field activities you help deploy and operate temporary ground sites that provide data connectivity with vehicles in flight. The role is hands-on, combining traditional IP networking and RF communications.
Key responsibilities
- Configure and troubleshoot enterprise switches, routers, firewalls and wireless networks, including VLANs, link aggregation, Layer 2/Layer 3 connectivity and site-to-site VPNs.
- Install, terminate, test, label and maintain copper and fiber cabling, patch panels, network racks and related physical infrastructure.
- Deploy, configure and operate RF data communications equipment, radio systems, antennas and RF cabling.
- Set up, operate and tear down temporary field sites, including network infrastructure, radios, portable antenna systems, IP cameras and cabling.
- Integrate IP-based radio systems with Ethernet and fiber networks and troubleshoot connectivity across the communications path.
- Perform pre-deployment testing and validation of network, RF and field equipment.
- Maintain network configuration management systems and keep network and RF documentation, diagrams and deployment procedures up to date.
- Monitor network health and availability, manage firmware upgrades and lifecycle of equipment, and run small networking and communications projects independently.
Required profile
- 4+ years of hands-on experience in networking, RF communications or related technical infrastructure roles.
- Hands-on experience installing, operating, configuring or troubleshooting RF systems and equipment, with practical knowledge of RF fundamentals, antenna systems and signal propagation.
- Experience administering or troubleshooting enterprise IP networks (switches, routers, firewalls, VPNs, wireless networks).
- Ability to work hands-on at temporary outdoor field sites in varying weather, including moving and deploying equipment and erecting portable antenna systems.
Required skills
- Networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, switching, routing and subnetting.
- Copper and fiber network infrastructure installation and troubleshooting.
- Preferred: RF test equipment (spectrum analyzers, antenna/cable analyzers, RF power meters, vector network analyzers), software-defined radios, link budget analysis and wireless link support.
