MPI Welder (2nd Shift)

About the role

McWane Plant & Industrial (MPI), a division of McWane Inc. based in Birmingham, Alabama, is looking for an experienced Welder I to join its Job Shop Fabrication and Machining operation. The 2nd-shift Welder I works from 2:00 PM to 12:30 AM, reports to the Branch Manager and is paid a starting rate of $26.08 per hour with a 24-month wage progression.

Key responsibilities

• Layout and weld parts together using manual welding processes according to templates and layout specifications, ensuring welds meet company and government standards.
• Ensure personal and team safety, wear appropriate PPE, and keep the work area clean.
• Follow the McWane Management Program, advise management of deviations, and promote the McWane Way principles.
• Weld in flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead positions, including ductile iron and steel pipe and collars.
• Use tools such as pneumatic and electric tools, measuring devices, grinders, welders, cutting torches, drills, chop saws and cranes safely.
• Work overtime and extended hours depending on customer and company needs, and work outside in all weather and in dust and fumes.

Required profile

• High school diploma, GED or equivalent experience.
• At least one year of welding experience.
• Ability to communicate in English, lift up to 50 pounds occasionally, and work in loud noise and dust.
• Ability to operate a forklift and obtain certification.

Required skills

• Manual welding in multiple positions.
• Knowledge of industrial tools, their uses and maintenance.
• Certified forklift operation.
