General Worker - Job Shop Fabrication and Machining

About the role

McWane Plant & Industrial is looking for a General Worker to join its Job Shop Fabrication and Machining operation in Wethersfield, CT. The worker performs a variety of tasks supporting the plant operation and helps colleagues service, repair and adjust equipment. The position reports to the Branch Manager and pays $21.91 per hour with a 24-month wage progression.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain a safe and healthy work environment, wear appropriate PPE and keep the assigned area clean.
• Operate production machinery or assist machine operators.
• Saw cut ductile iron pipe 3" to 48" diameter, from 1 to 20 feet long.
• Lift raw materials, finished products and packed items, manually or with hoists and forklifts.
• Paint completed products, stack, crate and secure items for shipment.
• Inspect products for quality conformance, check equipment and operations, count finished products and mark or tag parts.
• Load and unload items from machines, conveyors and conveyances, and record production counts and dates.
• Follow the Clear Water Safety Management Program and advise management of deviations.

Required profile

• High school diploma, GED or equivalent experience preferred.
• Ability to lift up to 10 pounds regularly, 25 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally, and to work in dust and fumes.
• Ability to work overtime and extended hours, and to work outside in all weather and tolerate loud noise.
• Some knowledge of industrial tools, their uses and maintenance.
• Close vision, depth perception, colour distinction and the ability to adjust focus.

Required skills

• Forklift operation and forklift certification.
• Knowledge of production and mechanical processing.
