Machine Operator 2nd Shift

About the role

McWane Plant and Industrial (MPI) is looking for an experienced Machine Operator for its Job Shop Fabrication and Machining operation in Wethersfield, CT. The operator works the 2nd shift (3:00 PM to 12:30 AM) and reports to the Branch Manager. The work involves measuring, threading, adjusting flange fit and facing flanges on ductile or steel pipe, using manual machine tools such as lathes and threaders, and operating the machines and a crane to move pipe in and out of machining centers.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure personal and team safety, wear appropriate PPE, and keep the work area clean
• Follow the Clear Water Safety Management Program and report deviations to management
• Identify fabrication requirements for each piece of pipe, place and center the pipe, and machine tapered threads while checking thread depth and taper
• Test the flange after threading, apply glue, and tighten the flange onto the pipe
• Threaders remove the pipe for the next operation; lathes run the cutting tool across the flange face to flush-fit it
• Work mainly with pipe and flanges 3" to 6" in diameter and 4 inches to 18 feet long
• Meet quality standards and production output targets, and work overtime and extended hours when needed

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent desired
• Previous experience with machinery desired
• Ability to read a tape measure and micrometer, good with math, and understanding of machinery processes
• Consistent attendance, teamwork, and willingness to help on a variety of machines
• Ability to work in dust and fumes, outdoors in all weather, and tolerate loud noise
• Forklift operation and certification required
